Dog Training

Group Obedience:

Did you know that most dogs that are surrendered to local shelters, the pound and rescues are surrendered for behavioral reasons and lack of training? These classes are geared to help the average owner with developing good leadership abilities, learning how to communicate with your dog(s) more effectively, understanding pack behavior, helping newly adopted dogs fit into their new homes, helping people understand passive-aggressive behavior in dogs, learning how to read body language of our canine pals, strengthening the canine-human bond and learning how your relationship with your dog affects training, aggression, fearfulness and dominance. You will learn various training theories and guide your dog through some basic obedience skills. The instructor will also address teaching house manners and solving specific problems in the future. (This class is for dog-handler pairs.) There will be a total of 5-7 classes (depending on need) that last about an hour to an hour and a half long and will be held either in Gilbert, AZ or Tempe/Scottsdale, AZ border location. The location of training will be determined by the general location of the majority of the participants and will be determined prior to the first class.

GILBERT LOCATION: located at Poco Verde Park that is off of Gilbert Road one block North of Elliot at the end of Bruce Avenue next to the Gilbert Community Center. Click here for a map.

TEMPE LOCATION: located at a park at E Curry Rd & N College Ave.  It is on the SW corner of Curry and College and there is a dog park located in the back of the park.  It is basically right off of the 202 and Scottsdale road so it is accessible to freeways.

NHCD foster dogs are FREE. Volunteers receive a 20% discount on training. Please email me privately for details.

Private Lessons:

Please note: I am only taking private training clients in the Prescott, Prescott Valley, and Verde Valley area.

On occasion I will do private lessons at your home. What to expect: a trainer will come to your home and teach you how to train your dog. At the end of this phase your dog will know Sit, Stay, Come, Heel, Down, Off and Leave it, on leash with distractions and without the use of food bribes. When in heel your dog will happily pay attention to which directions you choose to walk and stay with you. During Basic Obedience you will never hit or yell at your dog. All corrections are done (sparingly) and bountiful amounts of praise and love will be used to reinforce wanted behavior. A dog must be at least 4 months old to start this phase of training. The leash and collar are included if 5 consecutive lessons are scheduled and paid for. The fees are:

Consultations: East Valley only - $50
Lessons: $75 per hour session

Board and Train:

For certain cases I will do Board and Train. Most people who choose Board and Train either have little time to train their dog, or are going away on vacation and want their dog trained when they come back. Here is how it works.

Your dog will come and stay with us for four weeks. The dog will be trained 2-3 times every day, in the home, outside, near shopping centers, around other dogs, people, cars etc. This training will include crate training also. We introduce the dog to as many different circumstances as possible. Between training sessions, your dog will have playtime, snacks, and walks. When the dog returns home, a trainer will give you the first follow up lesson in your home. Blue Dog Dezign Dog Training insists on the follow up training sessions to make the training long lasting and effective. All training equipment is included. A dog must be at least 4 months old to start this phase of training.

Consultations: $50
Board and Train: $1000-$1400 per dog depending on need

Discounts available for rescue dogs and volunteers of New Hope Cattle Dogs. My training is geared to the Australian Cattle Dog (Blue Heeler) and other herding breed dogs such as Border Collies, German Shepherds, Corgis, Aussies, etc.
